Tier 1 Solar FAQs

Support and Frequently Asked Questions

How many volts and watts of solar panels can I connect to my Tier 1 Battery Technology box?

The Tier Energy system input will handle 48 volts of input. The wattage can be as great as 500 watts. So as long as you set up the solar array to not be greater than 48 volts or 500 watts, it will work with any solar array.

How many Tier 500 W, 48 v solar panels can I connect to my Tier 1 Battery Technology box?

One.

How long will my Tier 1 Battery Technology box work for?

The 21700 lithium battery is rated at 9,000 cycles.

If you fully charged and discharged once a day, you would get over 10 years of use. The lithium batteries used in the Tier 1 Solar system are designed for electric vehicle usage. Electric vehicle locomotion is the hardest load on a battery besides creating heat, so any load of 500 watts or less put on the Tier 1 Battery Technology system besides an electric heater, blow dryer, or similar is no problem.

Can I charge from my car lighter port or off my car battery terminals?

Yes, with the additional lighter plug DC1525 or with the Tier 1 Battery Technology terminal accessory, it is no problem.

Can I connect multiple Tier 1 Battery Technology banks? How many can be connected?

Yes, you can connect many Tier 1 Battery Technology banks. When connected together, no battery will be overloaded, no matter how many are connected. Without a charging source, one will simply flow 95% of its power to the next before shutting down.

What happens if I plug in too much load?

The system will stop functioning until the load is reduced via automatic circuit break. When the load is reduced, the system will notice and will begin to work again. There are no manual circuit breakers on this box to have to flip.

What happens if I plug in too many solar panels?

Same as too much load. If more than 48 volts or 500 watts are plugged in, the circuit will be grounded, and the system will stop working. Once the load is removed, the circuit is restored, and the system will work again.

Does the Tier 1 Battery Technology work with 110, 240 v?

Output: YES, both of the above. We have plugs that allow for each of those to be connected.

What is the weight of the Tier 1 Battery Technology box?

25 pounds.

Can I charge my Tier 1 Battery Technology bank from a gas generator or regular house power supply?

Regular house supply: YES. Generator with 12 V DC or 120 V AC output: YES.

If my Tier 1 Battery Technology bank is connected to both a solar panel and is plugged in to charge from a plug in my house, and there is no sun, and my battery runs out, will the system automatically switch to getting power from my house grid system to power my load?

Yes, the Tier 1 Solar energy system is designed to be able to charge from a 110 plug in the house but is not designed to power a house.

Can I power grow lights with this system?

Yes, the inverter can power grow lights, and we encourage LEC or LED systems for efficiency.

The Tier 1 solar battery bank has 1200 watt-hours available. LED grow lights are in the 200 to 500-watt range PER LIGHT. The 315 w LEC will run 3.8 hours without any solar panel input before needing power from another source like a second Tier 1 Battery Technology bank, the house power supply, or generator. More Tier 1 Battery Technology banks can be daisy-chained together to increase this time.

How long will my Tier 1 Battery Technology bank last on the shelf if I don’t use it at all?

This is unknown. The Tier 1 Battery Technology bank will drain slowly as the battery management system uses a little bit of power. If you have it connected to a solar panel, then the answer is 5 to 10 years. If it is charged and left in a storage locker, then after about a year, the batteries will have drained completely. We estimate that if the Tier 1 Battery Technology bank sits completely idle in a storage locker, it will be able to be recharged and used for 10 years, but this is untested.

Do I get a discount if I want to buy several or many of these Tier 1 solar systems?

Yes, please see the Wholesale page for becoming a dealer or making special arrangements for large orders.

Can I become an affiliate, dealer, or distributor of your products?

Yes, please see the Wholesale page for becoming a dealer, affiliate, or making special arrangements for large orders.

Yes, we are happy to help. Please see the Wholesale page for becoming a dealer or make special arrangements for large orders.

Will this Tier 1 Battery Technology bank system work when it’s cold out?

YES. Cold weather is ok. At about zero degrees, the capacity starts to drop dramatically. If the core temperature of the batteries reaches 0 degrees F, then the capacity will be half of what it is in warm weather. Also, if the core temperature of the battery reaches -40 degrees F, there may be damage to the battery cell.

If my Tier 1 Battery Technology bank with connected solar panel is not getting any sun and I am charging it from my house grid power or generator, will the system continue to work while I’m charging?

Yes, if you have a load like a grow light or refrigerator plugged into your Tier Energy system and you need to recharge your system from your house or gas generator, the system will continue to work while it is recharging.
